One happy family
Over the last few months Kim's been worked of her feet. Crazy days preparing for the company launch in Vegas at the end of January, followed by a ton of freelance work when she got home. All in all not too much time to relax. She felt like she needed a hobby, something to help unwind and enjoy. It was while out and about on Saturday running other errands that I wanted to pop into Coleman to see what they had in the way of accessories. Turns out they have very little in the way of accessories I wanted, but a lot in the way of perfect bikes for Kim. When we've looked before, they've always been too big and unwieldy, heavy, or just plain fucking boring looking. This time we stumbled across a beauty. A second-hand 2003 model Aprilia RS50 with its mighty 6.7 HP two-stroke engine. Hear it roar!
This bike is perfect for her to learn on as it is as light as a feather, was cheap as shit so doesn't matter if it gets dropped. It certainly won't loop on her if she overtwists the throttle. Most of all, she gets the Aprilia street cred - so much hotter than the Ninja bikes.. I rode it home for her and it's amazingly fun - you have to thrash the living shit out of it to keep it in the powerband and it makes you feel like you're going a million miles an hour. Look down at the speedo - 40 mph. I can't remember when 40 mph was ever so much fun before, even when I was learning. We're going to see if we can get Kim in on an MSF course to learn the basics and get down'n'dirty with it. Ultimately if she ends up loving it then we have a fantastic new hobby to develop our skills together. If she hates it, then I have a fun as hell throwaround bike for commuting on. No brainer!
Needless to say, I've already got a complete list of modifications that I want to run on it. Some of the stuff I can take care of myself, some of them are going into the shop for - I don't trust myself breaking carburetors apart or playing around with reeds..
The beauty about these mods on such a small bike is that they are so cheap - can do all of them for about the same cost as the exhaust mod for my R1..
