Rides: Fairfax, VA into West Virginia / Route 211
Partly because I am stuck between meetings all day today, and partly because it's nadgering cold outside and I wanted to re-live the glorious weather last summer for a few hours, I decided to re-hash my previous writeup of the motorbike ride into West Virginia to confirm with the new website look and feel. Click here to open a Microsoft MapPoint file with route and directions. For a more personable experience, you can read my first ride of 211 writeup here.

| From: Fairfax, VA 22030 To: Shenk Hollow Rd, Luray, VA 22835 Driving Distance: 73.6 miles Time: 2 hours, 14 minutes The whole ride is fun, but heaven is at the Thornton Gap twisties. At the end, turn around, run up the mountain again, rinse, lather repeat until adrenalin rush cravings are satisfied. I will try to fill in pictures as I re-ride the route with more familiarity. | ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| You should plan on trying to hit the road by 9am to avoid most of the traffic on 66, get a few mountain runs in, fill up with gas on 211, then blast back on home with the sun on your back and a smile on your face in time for a very late lunch or early dinner. Be safe, ride within your limits, wear your gear. Don't piss off the locals or the police, don't be a squid. | ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
